IMPORTANT! Dec 11, 2006 @ 12:46 PM
We will be moving the new system from the testing server to the main server over the upcoming holiday period. Because of changes to the database, all teachers will have to re-register their account on the new server to participate next term. The account on the new server will thereafter be yours to keep until you no longer wish to be associated with SBC. To re-register, please visit carleton.ca/sbc after January 2nd, 2007.

SBC Online Finals Details Dec 07, 2006 @ 02:07 PM

For all those registered for the playoffs please read the following information carefully:

1. The virtual playoffs will run from 10am to 2pm.

2. The first inputs are due by 10am. We use NRC time as our official clock. The URL is: http://time5.nrc.ca/JavaClock/timeDisplaySE.shtml

(Note: Java needs to be enabled on the PC that will use the clock to keep track of competition time. This is NOT necessary to participate, but only if you want to see the same clock that we are using to determine quarter deadlines.)

3. Teams use THE SAME Username and Password as during the Main competition.

4. The parameters/rules of the game are THE SAME as for the Main competition. The teams will start from scratch - starting at Quarter 1.

Team SBC will monitor teams as they SUBMIT their first values to ensure that everybody has logged in. Team SBC aims to process the first set of inputs by 10:15, however, there may be a short delay in the initial processing if we need to contact any teams who are having problems logging in. Hopefully, the first quarter will be processed by 10:20 at the latest. Please watch for instructions in the Competition News on the Team login page.

5. Inputs will be due every 10 minutes - rapid rounds. Watch the Competition News for up-to-the-minute announcements.

6. We will take a short break for lunch at approximately 12 - watch the News for definite time.

7. Students are not required to enter a rationale, HOWEVER they can use this input to ask questions of Team SBC. We will monitor the rationale and answer questions arise. Students and teachers can also contact us by email (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca) or by phone (613.520.7565).

Best of luck!

System Maintenance Nov 20, 2006 @ 10:06 AM
Weekly system maintenance and backup will take place on Fridays sometime between 9am and 12pm.  System outages may occur during this time, thereby affecting the ability of teams to input their decisions.  The ability to input should not be affected anytime Wednesday or Thursday thus teams should still be able to meet the 4pm processing deadlines on Fridays.  If you experience difficulties with the site during maintenance hours, please try again later.  Thank you for your patience.

Cheers!

New Game Updates Oct 30, 2006 @ 09:55 AM
This system is a work in progress and we are continually fixing errors that occur and updating the game with new changes.  Teachers were asked to report problems they encounter while participating in the beta testing competition and to report them using the fault reporting page (link at the bottom of the website).  As we fix these errors and make updates to the system a list will be posted of our progress.  For the newest updates, check this news item as all updates will be posted here.  Thank you for your cooperation and patience.  Please contact sbc@sprott.carleton.ca if you have any questions.

Getting Locked Out Oct 12, 2006 @ 10:03 PM
If a team or teacher gets their password wrong 3 times in a row when trying to login to the game area of the SBC site, their account will be locked. This security feature is in place to prevent people from trying to gain access to others accounts by guessing passwords. In order to have your account unlocked, please send an email to SBC requesting it be unlocked. Teachers: If you have forgotten your password, use the ‘forgot password’ link and have it emailed to you and email an ‘unlock’ request to SBC. Teams: If you have forgotten your password, please contact your teacher for your password and send an ‘unlock’ request to SBC. (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca)

Practice Rounds Oct 04, 2006 @ 03:18 PM
For those of you who were a little late getting your teams set up, we will be creating another practice competition for you this weekend.  If your teams login and see that they cannot submit inputs because they are not in a competition, don't worry.  Your teams will be able to login early Tuesday morning and submit inputs for processing at 4pm Tuesday afternoon.  This practice competition will run until Friday, October 13th to give your students a chance to get used to the new system.  We just want to wait till the weekend to give a few people a second chance to get their teams in this practice round.  Thank you for your patience.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at sbc@sprott.carleton.ca

Registering Teams Oct 01, 2006 @ 09:50 PM
Beta Testing teachers please note:

When registering your students to play in the SBC Beta Testing Competition, you must first create a teachers login account.  After the account is created, you must then add your classes.  Once your classes are registered you must then add teams in order to generate usernames.  To do this click on the box with the "+" sign to the right of the class you have created, enter the desired number of teams in the text box, and select "Add Team(S)".   A list of teams with usernames will then appear.  You can then go to the main page of the teacher game area and enter passwords for your teams.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact sbc@sprott.carleton.ca or (613.520.7565).
