| Attention All Teams! |
Oct 24, 2007 @ 05:45 PM |
Let's heat things up a bit!!! This Friday, October 26, 2007, there will be a blind quarter. Teams in all main competitions will have to submit two sets of inputs. This simulates a situation in which your marketing department was unable to get the information on your results and industry. Therefore you have to make your decisions without that information.
Both quarters (5 & 6 in Ontario Xtreme and 6 & 7 everywhere else) will be processed Friday at 4pm. For a more detailed explanation of blind quarters, please see the “Terminology” page listed under the 'Info' link. If you have any questions, please contact us either by email (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca) or voicemail at 613.520.7565.

| Ontario Xtreme Competition, System Error Restored |
Oct 20, 2007 @ 04:48 PM |
|
SBC would like to thank everyone for their
patience. We have recovered from the system error that occurred on Friday
afternoon with regards to quarter 4 of the Ontario Xtreme Competition. The system has been
restored to show results as of quarter 3, and will also display any inputs submitted
for quarter 4. We do however strongly suggest that everyone verify their
submitted inputs.
The competition will resume this Tuesday at 4pm (ET) with the processing
of quarter 4, and will continue as
scheduled thereafter.
Again we would like to thank everyone for
their patience and cooperation in this matter, and wish everyone the best of
luck in the competition.
Sincerely,
Team SBC

|
| Attention Ontario Xtreme Participants |
Oct 19, 2007 @ 03:13 PM |
Our apologies go out to all teams participating in the Ontario Xtreme Competition. We have experienced a technical difficulty.
Given the limited time to correct the issue before today’s 4pm process, we have elected to postpone the quarter 4 deadline until further notice. We are looking into the issue and will correct the problem as soon as possible.
Teams will be required to re-submit some inputs and you will be informed of when this will be possible. Please watch for News updates regarding how to proceed with the game. You will be notified of any new information when it becomes available.
We greatly appreciate your patience in this matter.
Sincerely,
Team SBC

| Getting Locked Out? |
Oct 14, 2007 @ 02:20 PM |
If a team or teacher gets their password wrong 3 times in a row when trying to login to the game area of the SBC site, their account will be locked. This security feature is in place to prevent people from trying to gain access to others accounts by guessing passwords. In order to have your account unlocked, please send an email to SBC requesting it be unlocked. Teachers: If you have forgotten your password, use the ‘forgot password’ link and have it emailed to you and email an ‘unlock’ request to SBC. Teams: If you have forgotten your password, please contact your teacher for your password and to send an ‘unlock’ request to SBC. (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca)

| Practice Round Locking |
Oct 05, 2007 @ 01:34 PM |
|
The extra practice round for Xtreme level teams, which began this week, was inadvertently locked from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday evening, and as a result, first quarter inputs have not been processed. We apologise for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused. These inputs will be processed on Friday at 4pm. We realise this has limited the practice time for some of our classes, but you will still be able to look at the output from this practice competition and therefore gain some insight into how the game works, even as you begin the main competition.
To view the results of past competitions, teams can visit their team settings page and select which competition they wish to view from the drop down menu. They must select the competition, select the update link, and then go to the analysis pages to view the information. Tutorial #7:Team Settings available under the Info section of the website demonstrates this.
The main competition lasts for several weeks and together with the tips and strategies sheets available under the Info section you will soon learn how to run your business. If you want some additional information about the game please try the demo competition. Please contact Team SBC at (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca) if you have any questions or concerns.
Cheers,

| New Server, Same Game! |
Oct 05, 2007 @ 10:12 AM |
|
SBC has entered a new and exciting era in terms of its computing infrastructure. On Sunday September 30 2007, SBC shut down its venerable old ESPROTT server on the campus of Carleton University and migrated to a state-of-the-art, outsourced and professionally-managed service. Our infrastructure is now in the capable hands of Entrenet Communications (entrenet.com) of Ottawa.
Thus you might get a message from your browser that you are being redirected to sprottbusinesscompetition.ca. In fact, that is correct and you should allow the redirect. If you have bookmarked us at either carleton.ca/sbc or esprott.carleton.ca/sbc, these links will continue to work and will send you to the new site. Updating your bookmarks/favourites will result in one less hop… and be more efficient for you.
Onwards and upwards. SBC looks forward to continued growth and even better service to you with our new computing service partnership.
Cheers! Teams SBC

|
| Practice Round Early Processing IMPORTANT
|
Oct 02, 2007 @ 10:14 AM |
Some of the teams taking part in the student practice rounds may notice that inputs were processed at 4am this morning instead of 4pm. This was caused by the system move which reset some of the automatic timing parameters set up for this practice competition. If you had not entered 'future inputs', the system would have taken either your last input or the defaults if it was your first quarter. Either way you are still able to view the results and gain some insight into how the system works.
REMEMBER this practice is to help you learn about the competition and will not affect the results of the main competition. It is worth noting though, that sometimes in business, deadlines change, so it is a good idea to plan ahead!
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at sbc@sprott.carleton.ca
Good luck in the main competition

Sep 05, 2007 @ 10:32 PM |
Please note that SBC has updated the Rules and Regulations of the SBC competition. Changes include removal of the intraschool competition for late registrants. SBC will no longer make any exceptions for late registrants and they will thus not be placed in the competition. Teams who are not registered by the appropriate deadlines will not be permitted to compete in the competition. Schools located outside the areas eligible for prizes will still be permitted to compete in intraschool competitions without playoffs provided they are registered by the appropriate deadlines. Please see the Rules and Regulations page for further details. Questions and concerns can be directed to Team SBC at (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca).

| Input Troubles? |
Mar 07, 2007 @ 07:24 PM |
|
If teams experience difficulties submitting their inputs, it could be due to the settings on the machine they are using. Please remind your students to look for the green message stating "Inputs successfully submitted" when they are entering their inputs. If they do not see this message after clicking the submit link button, check to make sure that entries are within the set limits. If they are, try using another computer or checking the Internet settings to ensure that JAVASCRIPT and ACTIVEX are enabled. Teams may simply need to log out and log back in again. Contact sbc@sprott.carleton.ca if you continue to experience problems.

| *ATTN ALL TEAMS!* |
Feb 28, 2007 @ 12:20 PM |
Let's heat things up a bit!!! This Friday, March 2nd, there will be a blind quarter. Teams in both the Ontario and Manitoba main competitions will have to submit two sets of inputs.
This simulates a situation in which your marketing department was
unable to get the information on your results and industry.
Therefore you have to make your decisions without that information.
Both quarters (2 & 3 in Maintoba and 4 & 5 in Ontario) will be processed Friday sometime after 4pm. For
a more detailed explanation of blind quarters, please see the “Terminology” page listed under the 'Info' link. If you have any questions, please contact us either by email (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca) or voicemail (613.520.7565).

| Remember to Create New Passwords |
Feb 12, 2007 @ 09:49 AM |
Teachers: You MUST assign new passwords to your teams in order for them to be able to enter inputs. After you create your teams, a list of usernames for your teams will appear on the 'Main' login page of your teacher account area. This list will only appear here after you have created teams and will disappear after you have assigned new passwords.
Teams begin with the default password 'Password'. You must assign new passwords for them to be able to enter inputs. To do this you have two options:
- You can choose to assign a unique password for each team separately in order to allow teams to choose their passwords
- You can click the 'Generate Random Password' link to have the system assign random passwords for all you teams. When you click the link, an email will be sent to you with the password list. These random passwords will be a series of numbers and letters.

| Problems with your Password? |
Feb 07, 2007 @ 09:32 AM |
Please note that passwords are case sensitive! Make sure that if you enter 'Pizza' when creating a password that you enter uppercase 'P' when you log in. After 5 incorrect tries, accounts are locked out for security reasons. Teams, please ask your teacher for the correct password and have them email SBC a request to unlock the account . Otherwise, teachers can override the lock by simply creating a new password for a locked out team. The new password will write over the old one and teams will be able to login using the new password. There features are in place to prevent students from logging into other teams accounts. If you have and questions, please contact (sbc@sprott.carleton.ca).
Cheers!
